[edit] Biographical Information
Em Lindbeck was a star at the University of Illinois in both football and baseball. On the gridiron, he was the team's quarterback and was an All-American in 1955. A 1955 football program says that he had been fourth in the nation the previous year in pass completion average and had hit .370 as a baseball player. He was later named Illinois Athlete of the Year in 1956. He was also drafted by the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL that year but signed with the Milwaukee Braves instead. He went on to play in a pair of big league games with the 1960 Detroit Tigers.
After his baseball days, Lindbeck returned to his hometown of Kewanee, Illinois, where he became a schoolteacher and coach. He was a city councilman there from 1979 to 1987 and mayor from 1987 to 1989.
