Elpidio Pinto has played for the Panamanian national team several times. In the 1994 Baseball World Cup, he was Panama's ace, going 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 13 K in 12 innings to lead in all 3 pitching Triple Crown categories. He tied 11 others, including Rolando Arrojo, for second in wins, one behind Masanori Sugiura. He was far worse in the 1998 Baseball World Cup, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Pinto had a 1-1, 5.40 record in the 2003 Baseball World Cup and doubled in his lone at-bat. The right-hander was atrocious in the 2006 COPABE Olympic qualifiers, going 0-2 with 12 runs allowed in 9 2/3 IP. In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, Pinto allowed 1 run in 5 2/3 IP - disregarding a start against Team USA that was later removed from the books due to Panama using illegal (improperly insured) players.
