Third baseman Elmer Yoter had 2,581 hits in the minor leagues between 1921 and 1942, including 452 2B and 363 SB. Yoter led the 1922 Virginia League with 13 HR, 10 3B, and 98 R.
As a major leaguer Yoter got into 36 games for three different teams in four seasons.
Yoter compiled a 1,331-1,220 record in 21 seasons as a minor league manager between 1932 and 1961, mostly for the Boston Red Sox organization. He also managed in the minors for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, and Brooklyn Dodgers.
Former big-league infielder Ted Schreiber recalled what Yoter told him when Ted, then a Red Sox farmhand, arrived at Waterloo, IA in 1959. "'I'm glad you're here. You're playing tonight.' Then he scanned the locker room and finally pointed to one player, 'You, you're released, give this guy your uniform.'"
Years later Schreiber was still incredulous at the memory. "He looked for a guy my size to release, even made him give me his sanitary stockings."
Yoter also scouted for the Red Sox in 1948-1949, 1952-1954, and 1962-1966.
