[edit] Biographical Information
Elmer Knetzer pitched eight seasons in the big leagues with a record of 69-69. He was a big winner in the Federal League, going 20-12 in 1914 and 18-14 in 1915.
Knetzer was born in Carrick, PA, near Pittsburgh. His photo was featured on p. 1 of Sporting Life, June 29, 1912, and an article indicated that he started professionally with Lawrence in 1909 and was purchased by Brooklyn in September of that year.
His first four major league seasons were with the Brooklyn Superbas/Dodgers. After his two years in the Federal League, he pitched for two more seasons in the National League, mostly with the Cincinnati Reds.
Another Elmer Knetzer, quite possibly his son, pitched in the minors from 1927-33, mostly in the New York-Pennsylvania League, winning in double figures several times.
The Pittsburgh Gazette Times of December 21, 1919 carried an article stating that Knetzer had pitched in 1919 with the Allegheny Steel team, going 52-6. He signed for the following year with the Oil City Independents.
