Eduardo Acosta debuted in 1969 with the Rogue Valley Dodgers (7-2, 2.59) and Daytona Beach Dodgers (1-6, 4.30). He was third in the Northwest League in ERA. In 1970, he was 5-2 with a 5.25 ERA for Daytona Beach and 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA for the Bakersfield Dodgers.
Acosta was down in Mexico for his last 10 seasons. In 1971, he was 14-9 with a 2.52 ERA for the Saraperos de Saltillo, placing 6th in the Mexican League in ERA. During 1972, the right-hander had a 14-5, 3.12 record. The next year, Eduardo had a career season with a 16-4, 2.24 campaign, allowing 133 hits in 169 IP. He finished 5th in the league in ERA.
Acosta was 12-6 with five saves and a 2.58 ERA for the '74 Saraperos. Leaving Saltillo, he went 14-9 with a 3.07 ERA for the 1975 Mexico City Red Devils.
After five good seasons in Mexico, Eduardo's second five seasons were a big decline. In 1976, he had a 6-8, 2.83 record for the Alacranes de Durango. He went to his hometown Dorados de Chihuahua in 1977 and fell to 5-18, 4.06 with 197 hits in 164 innings. He was one loss shy of the league lead.
Acosta was 9-15 with a 3.97 ERA for the 1978 Dorados, with 227 hits in 188 innings. He went 6-9 with a 5.09 ERA in '79, rapped for 194 hits in 129 innings. He finally rebounded a bit in his last year, going 4-7 with a 1.94 ERA in 1980, 9th in the circuit in ERA.
Overall, he had a 100-90, 3.15 record in the Mexican League.
Acosta was voted into the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
