From 1981 through 2004 the Edmonton Trappers were members of the Pacific Coast League. They changed affiliations frequently in this time, but for a 10-year span (1983-1992) they were linked to the California Angels. They were the last AAA affiliate of the Montreal Expos, in 2003 and 2004. In 2005, the franchise moved to Texas and became the Round Rock Express.

In 1984 they became the first Canadian team to ever win the Pacific Coast League Championship.
