Edmer Del Socorro began his athletic career in volleyball but switched to baseball due to his height. He helped the Philippines win a Gold Medal at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, Del Socorro was 2 for 18 with a double and fielded .760 as the starting Philippines shortstop. He also pitched to 3 batters, with two walks, a sacrifice fly and no outs.
Del Socorro was 1 for 3 in the 2007 Asian Championship, with a single off Ying-Chieh Lin, and handled all six chances at short without an error as the backup to Christian Canlas.
