The nephew of Roberto Clemente, outfielder Edgard Clemente played for the independent Sioux Falls Canaries in 2005 and 2006.
Prior to being known as "Edgard Clemente" he was known as "Edgard Velazquez".
Clemente hit .220/.298/.537 for Puerto Rico in the 2005 Baseball World Cup with four home runs and 10 RBI in 11 games, while being their main right fielder. He tied Mike Cervenak, Keiji Ikebe, Chun-Yu Kuo and Tsutomu Takanezawa for third in the event in home runs, trailing Yulieski Gourriel and Joey Votto. He hit game-deciding 3-run homers against both Japan and Taiwan.
