Eddie Menchaca has been a minor league player, coach and manager.
Menchaca was undrafted out of college, when the Seattle Mariners signed him. He hit .272/.306/.335 for the 2001 AZL Mariners and fielded .930 at short; he was also 0 for 5 with a walk for the Everett AquaSox. Eddie batted .215/.265/.245 as a floating utility infielder who appeared for five different Mariners affiliates in 2002, ranging from A to AAA.
In 2003, the Texan batted .230/.268/.266 as starting shortstop for the Inland Empire 66ers, but fielded .970. He also threw two shutout innings. He led California League shortstops in fielding percentage and Baseball America rated him as the best defensive shortstop in the circuit. The next year, Eddie put up a .212/.252/.267 line for the San Antonio Missions. The good-glove, light-hitting player batted .226/.274/.248 as a utility infielder for the 2005 Missions.
Menchaca coached for the 2008 AZL Mariners. He was originally signed to the Clinton Lumberkings for 2009, but got reassigned to the Pulaski Mariners as Jesus Azuaje replaced him. Eddie then became a manager at age 29, guiding Pulaski to the playoffs in 2010.
