After serving in the Navy during World War II, infielder Eddie Pellagrini played eight seasons in the majors, with five teams. His best year was 1948, when he hit .238 as the St. Louis Browns regular shortstop. His main teammates (Bill James Teammate Score) were Jerry Priddy, Ted Williams, Ned Garver and Bob Dillinger.
After retiring as a player, he was head baseball coach at Boston College from 1957 to 1988, leading the team to three College World Series appearances. Later on in life "Pelly" gave a baseball clinic for the Quincy (MA) Youth Baseball at Adam's Field for many years.
Pellagrini hit a Home Run in his first ML At Bat off of Sid Hudson of the Washington Senators at Fenway Park on April 22, 1946. He had entered the game as a PR for the injured Johnny Pesky.
Pellagrini's brother Bob played as a linebacker for the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.
