[edit] Biographical Information
Ed Wheeler was a bit of a puzzle. He played on the 1902 Superbas for all or most of the 1902 season, but hit only .125 with no extra base hits. The team as a whole hit .256, and Willie Keeler hit .333. Defensively, he made 19 errors in 26 games in the infield.
Still, Hall of Fame manager Ned Hanlon, who had already won five pennants by that time, must have seen something in him to keep him for the season.
Wheeler was one year older than teammate Jimmy Sheckard.
