Father of Ed Sprague Jr., Ed Sprague, Sr. pitched eight seasons in the majors. He was mostly a reliever although he started around half his games in 1974-75. In 1974, he had a 2.39 ERA with a 7-2 record.
He was a teammate of Reggie Jackson in Oakland, of Pete Rose, Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan in Cincinnati, of Joe Torre and Lou Brock in St. Louis, and of Robin Yount in Milwaukee.
Sprague bought the Stockton Ports in 1979. While he still owned the team, his wife Michelle bought the Lodi Dodgers in 1981. [1]
