Ed Rapuanowas a major league umpire from 1991 to 2012. He began his career in the New York-Penn League in 1985 and moved up to the Florida State League (1986-1987), Southern League (1988) and Triple-A Alliance (1989) before making it to the majors in 1991 as a member of the National League staff.

He has worked the 1995 and 2008 All-Star Games, the 2001 and 2003 World Series, and the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He also umpired five League Championship Series and eight Division Series. He also has conducted baseball clinics in Italy. In 2011, Rapuano was appointed a crew chief. He umpired 23 seasons and 2846 regular season games before retiring after the 2012 season. He then became an umpiring evaluator for Major League Baseball and participated in the evaluation and training of minor league umpires.
