[edit] Biographical Information
Ed Palmquist pitched two years in the majors, in 1960 and 1961. His debut in 1960 at age 27 was impressive, as he posted a 2.54 ERA in 22 games in relief. He had the lowest ERA on the Los Angeles Dodgers squad that season.
He was traded in 1961 after only 5 games with the Dodgers, and finished out his major league career with the Minnesota Twins, appearing in 9 more games.
Palmquist had been signed by the Dodgers before the 1951 season, and so it was nearly a decade before he came to the majors in 1960.
The book "Sandy Koufax: A Lefty's Legacy" says that Palmquist was known as "Wally Weird", but does not give an explanation as to why.
He later pitched for Daimai in Japan.
