[edit] Biographical Information

Ed Crosby was a lefthanded-hitting infielder with little power who played parts of six big league seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and Cleveland Indians between 1970 and 1976.

A second-round pick by the Cardinals in the 1969 amateur draft, he was already in the majors by 1970 and had his most major league at-bats in 1972 as a frequently-used infield back-up behind Dal Maxvill, Joe Torre, and Ted Sizemore. He hit .253 in limited playing time in 1970, but never hit more than .234 after that (except for going 1 for 2 in 1976). Since he never hit a major league home run and stole all of one base, it's not as if other facets of his game could easily compensate for his low batting average either.

Ed is the father of Bobby Crosby, and another son Blake Crosby was drafted by the Oakland A's in 2009 out of Sacramento State.

He was a high school teammate of Bobby Grich.
