Right-hand pitcher Ed Albrecht from St. Louis had a very big year in the lower minors leagues in 1949 when he won 29 games and struck out 389 to establish all-time records in the Cotton States League, pitching for the Pine Bluff Cardinals.
He made the long jump from class C to the majors late that year, and on the final day of the 1949 season, made his first big league start for his hometown St. Louis Browns, with a five inning rain shortened one-hit victory over the Chicago White Sox. He would pitch in just two more games in the majors for the Browns in 1950.
Ed had a very good minor league career. He started out as a 17 year old youngster in 1945 with the class D Bristol Twins of the Appalachian League, winning 5 and losing just 1 with a 2.55 ERA and finished up his 8 year run in 1953 with the San Antonio Missions of the AA Texas League. He had a minor league career record of 87 wins and 67 losses with a 3.91 ERA. For reasons unknown he left the game at the early age of 25.
During Ed's Playing career he primarily wore number 35.
Ed died December 29, 1979, at the age of 50 in Cahokia, IL, where he was employed with a trucking company.
