Eddie Mayer had one career save. It came on April 17, 1958 against the St. Louis Cardinals. He relieved Dave Hillman with the Cubs ahead 4-3 and got pinch hitter Hal Smith to hit into a double play and then finshed out the game in a 4-3 Cubs win. Glen Hobbie got the win.
Mayer attended the University of California a couple years after Jackie Jensen had been there. He started in the minor leagues in 1952 and went 17-8 in both 1953 and 1954. Overall, he went 64-59 in 202 games in his eight-year minor league career.
