Ed Leip was an outfielder for twelve years, four in the Major Leagues (1939-42) and twelve in the minors (1936-1942;1946-1950), losing four years to the military. He served in the U. S. Army for three years during World War II (1943-1945) (N&C). He had four cups of coffee with the Washington Senators in 1939 and the Philadelphia Athletics in 1940, 1941 and 1942. He spent two seasons managing Class D teams in the Pittsburgh Pirates' farm system: in 1947 he managed the Salisbury Pirates in the North Carolina State League and in 1948 he managed the Leesburg Pirates in the Florida State League. a He worked for the Sheet Metal Workers Union in Trenton, NJ, retiring in 1976. He died at age 73 and is buried at Princeton Memorial Park in Robbinsville, NJ.
