[edit] Biographical Information
Outfielder Ed Freed got four hits in his first major league game on September 11, 1942. He joined the Army the following season and never returned to the majors after World War II.
Freed posted a strong offensive line of .303/.378/.455 during his time in the majors. Each of those numbers was far better than anyone else who had at least ten at-bats on the 1942 Phillies.
Freed's minor league career began in 1940 and ended in 1950. Most of it was spent at Trenton and at Rock Hill. He managed a couple seasons at Rock Hill while serving as a player-manager.
