[edit] Biographical Information
After a tremendous rookie year, Williams never lived up to his promise. Primarily a catcher, he also played first base and third base but not very well. Williams had tremendous power but was inconsistent. Enamored with his power, Baltimore Orioles' manager Earl Weaver insisted on acquiring Williams for the 1973 season. The Orioles gave up second baseman Davey Johnson and catcher Johnny Oates and two others for Williams and a minor leaguer.
Fifth in the National League with 33 home runs as a rookie in 1971.
