The son of agent Barry Axelrod, pitcher Dylan Axelrod was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 30th round of the 2007 amateur draft. After playing two and a half years in their organization, he was signed by the Chicago White Sox in 2009. He reached the majors with the Sox in 2011 as a September call-up. He made his big league debut on September 7th against the Minnesota Twins, throwing two frames of scoreless relief. A week later, he made his first start in the majors, facing the Detroit Tigers and giving up two earned runs while striking out eight over six innings. He earned his first win on September 26th against the Toronto Blue Jays, holding the team scoreless over six innings.
