[edit] Biographical Information
Reuben "Dummy" Stephenson, known to other ballplayers as "Steve", played major league ball for a week when Ed Delahanty was injured. Steve hit .270 for manager Harry Wright, playing in the outfield alongside Sam Thompson and Billy Hamilton.
Stephenson is the subject of a SABR biography. Although he played only the one week in the majors, he played semi-pro and minor league ball for 15 years. He worked for a number of firms connected with the pottery industry, and in later life was with a shipbuilding company, an auto factory and a state highway department.
