[edit] Biographical Information

George "Dummy" Leitner was a 29-year-old rookie in the majors in 1901. During 1901-02 he pitched for four teams, appearing in five games.

Leitner, who was deaf, may have gotten his chance because Dummy Taylor, another deaf player, made his debut in 1900 and was successful enough to play nine seasons in the majors. During 1901, the 1901 New York Giants had three deaf pitchers: Taylor, Leitner, and Dummy Deegan.

As of 1906, Leitner was still pitching at age 35. One teammate on the 1906 Baton Rouge Cajuns was 18-year-old Tommy McMillan, who would go on to play major league ball beginning in 1908.
