[edit] Biographical Information
Duke Sims played eleven seasons in the majors for five teams. He had most of his seasons with the Cleveland Indians during the second dead-ball era, and showed some power with a high of 23 home runs in 1970 in 110 games.
A solid defensive catcher whose career batting average of .239 was deceiving. Sims retired with a very respectable .340 OBP -- better than many "higher-average" lifetime hitters. He could also play outfield.
Sims is the only major leaguer born in Utah to get over 2,000 at-bats in the majors.
He is one of three major leaguers with the last name Sims (as of July 2007).
