Duke Markell was the only major leaguer born in France who played in the majors between 1915 and 1978. He came up to the 1951 Browns for five games, going 1-1.

Threw three no-hitters in the minor leagues, including two in the International League.

The book Baseball in Oklahoma City says that he was sold to St. Louis (apparently after the Oklahoma City team's 1951 season) as part of a couple trades that enabled the team to keep running for another season.

David Pietrusza's site says he played for Schenectady. Another page of the site pegs the year at 1948 and says Tommy Lasorda was a teammate. The book Beisbol Cubano has him with Cienfuegos in the winter of 1952-53. The Santurce Crabbers book says he played for Santurce in the winter of 1956-57.
