Duke Cleveland was a Negro League outfielder for several years. He was with the Jacksonville Red Caps in 1938 and Cleveland Bears in 1939-1940. He returned to Jacksonville in 1941 and appeared for the West in their 8-3 loss in the 1941 East-West Game; pinch-hitting for Preacher Henry, he singled off Dave Barnhill but was gunned down running by Roy Campanella.
CLeveland hit .143 for Jacksonville and .316 for the Cincinnati Buckeyes during 1942, then batted .259 for the Cleveland Buckeyes in 1943. He hit .500 in limited time for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1946 to end his career.
