Duane Theiss pitched 20 games for the Atlanta Braves in 1977-78.
He was from Zanesville, OH and attended Marietta College in Ohio. Kent Tekulve had been at Marietta a few years before him.
With the Braves, he was 15 years younger than teammate Phil Niekro.
Theiss pitched six seasons in the minors, primarily as a reliever. He had a record of 24-15 and at least 24 saves. With Richmond in 1978, he was managed by Tommie Aaron. He had a record of 6-2 and tied for the team lead in saves with 7. In the majors that year, he posted an ERA of 1.42 in three games.
According to the Marietta College Athletics site, Duane's career ended due to a shoulder injury. He became pitching coach at Marietta and more recently at Ohio State University.
