Infielder Doug Strange played parts of nine seasons in the majors, primarily as a utility man. His best season was 1997, when he hit .257 with 12 homers as the Montreal Expos primary third baseman. After his playing career ended, he was a Florida Marlins scout in 2000 and 2001. After a year as a Pittsburgh Pirates scout, he moved into the team's front office. He is currently a Special Assistant to the General Manager for the team after spending 2005-2007 as assistant GM. Strange was also a special assistant to the Pirates' GM in 2003-2004.

Strange and his wife are the parents of five children, including quadruplets born in early 1997.
