Doug Sisson


After attending the University of Montevallo Doug Sisson signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Twins. After spending the 1985 season with the Twins' organization (and not playing any games), Sisson returned to Montevallo to complete a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and then earned a masters degree in physical education. Sisson began his coaching career in 1987, spending two seasons as an assistant at Montevallo. They won the conference title in 1988. From 1989-91, he was an assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern College, and they won the conference championship in his final year.

He moved to the professional coaching ranks in 1991. Before becoming a manger, he was a hitting/fielding coach in the Texas Rangers organization. His stops included the Butte Copper Kings in the Pioneer League and then in 1992 with the Charlotte Rangers in the Florida State League. His first managerial opportunity came in 1993 with the Erie Sailors in the New York-Penn League and then the following year as manager of Hudson Valley Renegades also in the NYPL.

In 1995, Sisson served as the manager of the Albany Polecats in the South Atlantic League, and in 1996, he won his first championship with the Delmarva Shorebirds of the SAL. Doug moved up to the Florida State League, managing the West Palm Beach Expos. Also, he led the Sun Cities Solar Sox to the Arizona Fall League title in 1998 and then the Jupiter Hammerheads to the FSL Eastern Division title in 1998. He led the Harrisburg Senators to the 1999 Double-A Eastern League championship and back to the playoffs in 2000. In 2001, he managed the St. Paul Saints of the Northern League and in 2002 was hired by the Anaheim Angels organization to manage their Double-A affiliate, the Arkansas Travelers. In 2003, he returned to the Expos organization as their minor league field coordinator. He also managed their FSL team, the Brevard County Manatees. Doug returned to the college ranks in 2006 as an associate coach at the University of Georgia.

In 2008-2009 Sisson has been the Minor League Field Coordinator for the Kansas City Royals.
