Doug Davis won the Milwaukee Brewers Unsung Hero Award in 2004. He features a curveball as his best pitch.
In Davis' major league debut, on August 9, 1999, the Blue Jays defeated the Texas Rangers, 19-4, setting a team record by recording 25 hits. OF Jacob Brumfield and 2B Homer Bush had four hits apiece for Toronto while four other players recorded three safeties each. Davis enteed the game in the 6th inning for Texas. In 2 1/3 innings of work, he allowed 11 hits, including three home runs, while surrendering 10 earned runs. He returned to the minors the next day.
At the beginning of the 2008 season, it was announced that Davis had thyroid cancer and would face surgery within a few weeks while continuing to play in the meantime. He missed about a month after the surgery before returning to the playing field.
