Donny Lucy made his major league debut in 2007, as a catcher for the Chicago White Sox.

Lucy hit .313 and knocked in 47 runs in his final season at Stanford University; he was named a Pac-10 Conference all-star. Lucy was selected by the White Sox in the second round of the 2004 amateur draft. He was signed by scouts Rick Ingalls and Adam Virchis and made his pro debut that summer. He hit .257, with 15 home runs, 113 RBI's, and 45 steals in 325 minor league games between 2004 and 2007.

On September 5, 2007, Lucy scored a hit in the second at-bat of his first major league game. After striking out against Kenny Rogers in his first plate appearance of the night, Lucy pulled a Rogers offering to left field for a single in the 5th inning.
