Donald Duarte hit .450 for Cuba in the 2000 World Junior Championship to finish 6th in the event in average, leading Cuba. He hit .302/.382/.402 in his first six seasons in Cuba, through 2006-2007. He batted .336 and slugged .473 in 2007-2008 then hit .327/?/.491 in the playoffs to help his Pinar del Río club to the finals.
Duarte batted .330/.407/.434 in 2008-2009 and fielded .954 as a 3B-SS. The next season, he fielded .949 at the hot corner and hit .335/.402/.520.
