[edit] Biographical Information
Don Schwall is one of a handful of players to start a season in the minor leagues and still be named to the All-Star team. His best season was his rookie year, with the 1961 Red Sox, when he finished 15-7 and won the American League's Rookie of the Year Award. Bill James has pointed out that his won-loss record was rather freakish, given that he walked 110 men in 178.2 innings (while only striking out 91), and that Dick Howser would have been a much better choice for the award. Indeed his only other success in later years came as a middle reliever for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1965 and 1966
