Pitcher Don O'Riley was shot in a robbery while working in a convenience store in Kansas City and died at age 52. O'Riley got off a shot that wounded the perpetrator, but his own wounds proved fatal. His playing career ended in 1973 when he injured his elbow in a motorcycle accident.
