Don Mueller played 12 seasons in the majors, mostly for the New York Giants, and posted a career batting average of .296.

He was a free swinger and great contact hitter who seldom walked or struck out. In 4,364 at bats on his career, Mueller struck out a total of only 146 times -- never more than 26 times in any season! On the other hand, he also rarely got walks, with a career total of 167 - never more than 34 times in any one season.

Mueller played most of his games as a right fielder, much of the time next to centerfielder Willie Mays.

Don was in the minors from 1944-49, playing mostly for Jersey City. His career minor league batting average was .335.

Son of Walter Mueller, who was also a National League outfielder.
