Don Long

Don Long became hitting coach of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008 after 25 years in minor league baseball (as a player, coach and manager)/
An infielder, he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians out of high school, the Cincinnati Reds and Houston Astros out junior college and finally the San Francisco Giants in the 3rd round of the 1983 amateur draft. He played three seasons in the Giants chain before retiring.
Long had won Bronze with Team USA in the 1982 Amateur World Series.
Long was a coach for Seattle University and the Everett Giants in 1986 and the Quad City Angels in 1987-1988. He began managing with the Bend Bucks in 1988.
Long was a minor league hitting instructor for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1999 and has been the Phillies' minor league hitting coordinator since 2000.
