Don Bollweg was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1942 but didn't make it to the majors until 1950, when he was 29. He played five years in the majors, with most of his at-bats in 1953 and 1954. He exclusively played first base in the field while in the majors.
Bollweg made three appearances for the New York Yankees in the 1953 World Series. Bill James picked the 1953 Yankees as having a notable "slow bench", with Bollweg, Irv Noren, Johnny Mize, and others, although Bollweg presumably had some speed because he had four triples in limited play.
In 1955 and 1956, Bollweg was with the Minneapolis Millers, and appeared in the 1955 Junior World Series with them. He retired as a player in 1956.
Bollweg served in the U.S. Army, missing the 1943 through 1945 seasons. After baseball, he worked in real estate and insurance and was an Election Board official in his hometown of Wheaton.
