[edit] Biographical Information
Brother of Jimmy Johnston, Doc Johnston spent most of his 11-year major league career with the Cleveland Indians, for whom he played in 1912-14 and 1918-21.
He was the first baseman with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1915-16 but in 1917 (after Johnston had hit .213 in 1916) the Pirates moved the elderly Honus Wagner to first base. Johnston spent the year in Birmingham and hit .374 for New Orleans during a month in 1918.
He managed in the minors in 1924 and 1928-29.
