Catcher Homer "Dixie" Howell was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1938, and after playing for other major league teams finished up his major league career with the Dodgers from 1953 to 1956.
He is not to be confused with Millard "Dixie" Howell the pitcher, who was also born in 1920.
He and Herman Franks alternated catching duties on the 1946 Montreal Royals, a team which featured Jackie Robinson and which won 100 games.
