Dick Adams was the brother of Bobby Adams and uncle of Mike Adams. He was signed by the Cincinnati Reds along with his brother Bob and assigned to the Ogden Reds in the Class C Pioneer League in 1939. In 1940 he played with Tucson, AZ, and Albuquerque, NM, in the Class D Texas-Arizona League. The next year, he was with the Fresno Cardinals in the Class C California League. In September 1941, he enlisted in the Air Corps and in February was stationed at Moffett Field, CA. In December 1945 he was mustered out of service and had spent his time as player manager of the Santa Ana, CA, Army Air Base team. Joe DiMaggio played there until sent overseas. Adams hit .330 and drove in 155 runs for the Wenatchee Chiefs of the Class B Western International League in 1946 and in November of that year was drafted by the Philadelphia Athletics. On May 20, 1947, he made his major league debut with the A’s. He remained with the club for the 1947 season and then was back in the minor leagues where he continued to play until 1953. He had played in 37 major league games for the Athletics.
Adams was a professional musician and led his own band in the off season.
