In 1901 the Des Moines Hawkeyes changed their name to the Des Moines Millers. At 48-75, they were 31 games behind the Kansas City Blues and half a game ahead of 8th-and-last-place Colorado Springs Millionaires. Fred Glade struck out 196 batters, leading the Western League. The next season they were known as the Des Moines Midgets.
