Catcher Denny Sommers played in the San Francisco Giants chain from 1958 to 1966. He then managed in the minors from 1966 to 1976.
Sommers was a New York Mets coach in 1977 and 1978 and managed in the Detroit Tigers chain in 1979. He was a member of the Cleveland Indians staff from 1980 to 1985 and was with the San Diego Padres from 1988 to 1990. In 1992 he was a Special Assistant, Baseball Operations to the GM for the Milwaukee Brewers.
