[edit] Biographical Information
Dennis Lamp's rookie year with the Chicago Cubs in 1978 did not produce an impressive won-lost record as Lamp finished 7-15. His ERA of 3.30, however, tells the rest of the story. Lamp pitched in hard luck all season but was able to post double-digit wins three of the next four years. A dependable starter with the Cubs, Lamp eventually excelled as a relief pitcher with the Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland A's, Boston Red Sox, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Lamp pitched 2 one-hitters in his career. The first came on June 9, 1978 as a member of the Chicago Cubs against the San Diego Padres. The lone hit was a 6th-inning single by Gene Richards. The second one-hitter was on August 25, 1981 as a member of the Chicago White Sox against the Milwaukee Brewers. The lone hit in that game was a 9th-inning double by Robin Yount. Yount came around to score and Lamp did not get a shutout.
