[edit] Biographical Information
Brother of Dan Casey. Dennis Casey had a 129 OPS+ in two seasons - in 1884 he did well in limited time in a season when lots of players were getting tryouts due to the presence of the Union Association. The next year he dazzled for the Baltimore Orioles, leading the team in average, OBP and slugging. he was benched late in June because his baserunning was not up to expectations and because he swung too frequently at pitches not in the strike zone. He was released a month later and never returned to the majors. In the '30s, his brother began claiming that he was the model for Casey - when this theory didn't gain support, Dan Casey claimed he was the source.
