Deinys Suárez Laguardia

Deinys Suárez pitched for Cuba in the 2001 Junior Pan American Games. In the 2002 World Junior Championship, he had a 1-1, 5.82 record with 11 walks and 22 strikeouts in 17 IP. He was fourth in the event in strikeouts, 10 behind Canada's Dave Davidson.
Suárez debuted in 2002 with the Industriales. He was awful for the Cuban national team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, his international debut at the senior level, allowing 3 of 4 batters he faced to reach base. Amazingly, he did not allow a run.
Through his first four seasons in Cuba, Deinys had a 30-17 record wit h3 saves and a 3.55 ERA, striking out 299 in 337 1/3 IP.
In the 2006 Haarlem Baseball Week, the right-hander was 1-0 with 8 shutout innings, fanning 7, walking 5 and giving up five hits. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, he went 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA; only Yuniesky Maya had a higher ERA on Cuba's staff. He got Cuba's only loss in their 9 games in the Cup, a 4-3 defeat to the Taiwan national team. Deinys gave up all 4 runs in 3 innings, the big blow being a 2-run shot by Tai-Shan Chang. That was his last stint with the national squad.
He left Cuba following the 2008-2009 season and became a free agent on the international market in August 2009.
