As of 2006, the most recent professional baseball team in DeLand, FL played in the 1970 Florida State League and was known as the DeLand Sun Caps. A co-op team, they went 55-77 to finish 11th in the 12-team FSL under manager Bunky Warren. Outscored 620-506, they allowed the most runs in the league, though they were third in runs scored. They had no All-Star performers and no one went on to a notable career. Jerry Ray managed to go 9-9 and his 2.37 ERA was 7th in the league as their ace hurler.
