- Dave Gumpert was also a "replacement" player during one of the strikes, although he did not appear in a regular season game after 1987.
- Elbow trouble and the resultant effect on his slider ended the effectiveness with which he began his Tiger career.
- Pitched for the Aquinas College Tommies, in Grand Rapids, MI, along with longtime major league reliever Paul Assenmacher.
