Darren Oliver has pitched 14 years in the big leagues (through 2007). He started in the majors as a reliever, then became a starter for many years, and most recently has been relieving again.

Parts of eight of his fourteen seasons have been with the Texas Rangers. In his last six major league seasons, he has pitched for seven major league teams.

Son of Bob Oliver. Nolan Ryan played with both Bob and Darren Oliver.

Oliver is the second player to have played for the four original expansion franchises (Angels, Astros, Mets, Senators/Rangers). Nolan Ryan was the first.

Oliver went 15 years 271 days between his second career save and his third. This is the all-time record for the longest gap between one save and the next: the previous record was 14 years 23 days by Mike Flanagan, between his first and second saves.
