Darrell Einertson pitched 11 games for the 2000 New York Yankees, who went on to win the 2000 World Series. Einertson's 3.55 ERA was one of the best on the team, which had an overall ERA of 4.76 during a year when the 2000 American League had an ERA of 4.92.
As a comparison, the 35-year-old Dwight Gooden had a similar ERA of 3.36 for the team.
Einertson was at Cameron University (Oklahoma) in 1994 and Iowa Wesleyan College in 1995. After being drafted by the New York Yankees in the 11th round in 1995, he spent his entire minor league career with them.
He originally came up in 2000 when Andy Pettitte went on the disabled list. Einertson himself missed the 2001 season due to an injured shoulder.
The New York Times of April 17, 2000 stated that his teammates called him "Chief", and apparently he has some Chippewa heritage.
