[edit] Biographical Information
Pitcher John F. ("Darby" or "Cinders") O'Brien won 22 games with the 1889 Cleveland Spiders. Along with teammates Henry Gruber, Jersey Bakely, Patsy Tebeau, and Paul Radford, he jumped to the Players League the following season, joining the Cleveland Infants.
O'Brien died of pneumonia at age 24.
